Extension to Comment Period for the Annual Plan Additions FY25 #6

May 2, 2025

Recent updates to the inventory viewer have made it more difficult to view current forest inventory. You can download the most up-to-date inventory from the Minnesota Geospatial Commons. A GIS (Geographic Information System) software program or a compatible online viewer is necessary to view the file. Popular options include QGIS, ArcGIS, and Google Earth.

The updated list is posted to the Annual Plan Additions webpage. We’ve extended the comment period to Friday, May 23 to allow for additional submission time.

About this opportunity for comment

To provide the public with notification about additions to the Annual Stand Exam List, the Division of Forestry issues updates approximately every other month on the Annual Plan Additions webpage and sends notice of the opportunity to comment to this subscription list.

Background

The DNR plans forest stands to be evaluated for potential timber harvest or other forest management actions on a 10-year basis. Each year a list of forest stands to be evaluated for harvest in support of forest and habitat management, called the Annual Stand Exam List, is released for public comment. Forest stands are added or removed from this list regularly to ensure appropriate management occurs. Additions often occur when new information from field surveys becomes available, changes in forest resource conditions occurs, or nearby harvest activities happen. Those stands that are added to the Annual Stand Exam List are considered “Annual Plan Additions.” These forest stands are typically recommended by field personnel for forest management during the current fiscal year.
